Treasures of Western Georgia (9 days / 8 nights)

This is the most beautiful and picturesque journey in our collection. The tour route is like a thread. Ancient temples from the UNESCO list, extraordinary beauty of canyons, caves and lakes, the best museum in Georgia (in our humble opinion 🙂 and wineries with wine, the taste of which will be a discovery for you, are strung on it like pearls.

Landing at Tbilisi airport. Meeting and group transfer to the hotel. Free time.

Breakfast in the hotel.

Walking tour of evening Tbilisi. With our guide, you will pass through the most iconic sights of the Old City: see the “leaning tower” of the famous Rezo Gabriadze puppet theater and the smallest city clock, visit the Sioni Cathedral, one of the oldest Caravanserais, the Bridge of Peace, take the cable car up to the fortress Narikala, from where you will have a bird’s eye view of the city and the only mosque in the city. The tour ends at the Sulfur Baths.

Independent return to the hotel.

Breakfast in the hotel.

10:00 meeting with the guide. We will go to the ancient capital of Georgia – the city of Mtskheta. A trip to this city is like traveling back in time. Mtskheta has remained the spiritual heart of the country. We will visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral – UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Mtskheta has been a trading city since ancient times, and now, on its streets, locals sell souvenirs. We will tell you where it is better to buy delicious churchkhela, tklapi or spices for cooking national Georgian dishes.

The next stop is Uplistsikhe, the oldest of the cities preserved in the territory of Eastern Georgia. Archaeologists have established that life originated here at the end of the 2nd century BC. It is completely carved into the rock and, to this day, has preserved the religious, cultural and historical layers of different eras.

For lunch, we will visit Chateau Ateni. During the tasting, you will be able to get acquainted with 4 varieties of wine from this region.

Return to Tbilisi around 20:00.

Breakfast at the hotel at 9:00.

Check out from the hotel in Tbilisi. We are going to the North-West of the country, to the mountainous region of Racha. The total length of the route is 250 km. Lunch (for an additional fee, on a mountain pass).

We are waiting for a photo-stop at the picturesque alpine lake Shaori, a visit to the most beautiful temple in the Region – Nikortsminda. It was built in the 11th century, and its walls have preserved frescoes of the 16th century. Their beauty is mesmerizing.

The next stop will appeal to all lovers of Georgian wine. We will visit the factory where Khvanchkara wine is made. Excursion with tasting.

For the night, we will stay at one of the hotels in the capital of the region, the city of Ambrolauri.

Breakfast in the hotel. 9:00 meeting with the guide.

15 km from Ambrolauri, there is the very village of Khvanchkara, in its vicinity, on the mountainside, the same grape varieties grow, from the duet of which an unforgettable taste of wine is born. We will stop in the village for a tasting at a private winery.

Further, ours is probably one of the most picturesque roads in Georgia, a mountain serpentine at an incredible height from Racha to Imereti (100 km, about 2 hours on the way).

Lunch (lunch boxes).

Visiting the “fabulous” caves of Prometheus. We will go down into the thickness of the mountain and pass through the underground halls, decorated by nature with stalactites and stalagmites.

Overnight at Tskaltubo resort.

Breakfast in the hotel.

In the morning, we will go to another beautiful and picturesque region of Georgia – Samegrelo. In just an hour, we will find ourselves in the most beautiful canyon in Western Georgia – Martvili. We will walk in 50 shades of green and swim in the river with blue water.

Samegrelo is the birthplace of kharcho, kupat and satsivi. And we will not pass by a restaurant with the cuisine of this region. Lunch will be in “Mingrelian style”.

Transfer to the Imereti region (travel time 1 hour 20 minutes).

Before checking into a hotel in Kutaisi, we will visit the UNESCO cultural heritage site – Gelati Monastery. It was founded in the 12th century by the great Georgian king David the Builder. There is also his grave, on which, during his lifetime, the king bequeathed his descendants to walk. What for? We will tell you about this.

Overnight at the hotel in Kutaisi.

Breakfast in the hotel.

In the morning, we will make a short tour of Kutaisi and visit its main Bagrati Cathedral – another UNESCO monument with an interesting and tragic history.

45 km from Kutaisi, there is a small town of Vani, in the vicinity of which, archaeologists discovered the remains of an ancient city. Its foundation dates back to the 1st century BC. Thanks to this find, a branch of the State Historical Museum was opened in the city. This is a real treasure of Georgia. For example, the original of our famous “tamada of Tbilisi” lives there.

Lunch at the pass (paid separately).
